Equinox Desktop Environment (shortly EDE) is small desktop environment, built to be simple, to have familiar look and feel and to be reasonably fast. Various UNIX-like operating systems is place where you can run it.

It is based on modified FLTK library, called eFLTK

Pros:

    * Very fast and small (both in ram and on disk)
    * Reasonably similar to Windows, but configurable
    * A whole desktop environment, based on FLTK, a number of apps available

Cons:

    * Many important features and apps missing - still "under construction"
    * The toolkit development has problems with API stability and compatibility

Just for your information:

Memory usage of various applications expressed as a percentage of total memory (total memory is 292mb Not sure if the swap file is included)

I am just using ps -e v to see memory usage.

XFCE = 2.0% 5.84mb (I think)
XF Taskbar = 1.6% 4.62mb
XF Desktop = 1.9% 5.548mb
XFCE Panel = 3.6% 10.5mb
XFCE mcs Manager = 2.1% 6.1mb
Total 26mb of resources.

ICEWM = 1.1% 3.21mb
ICEWM-tray = 0.6 1.75mb
ICEWM-Session = 0.3 0.8mb
Total 5mb of resources.

Ede
eworkpanel = 1.2% 3.5mb
eiconman = 1.3% 3.76mb
total 3.5mb of resources (7mb with icons!)

(please note that ede is the only one above to come with an icon manager for the desktop).
Other icon managers

Rox --pinboard= 2.4 7mb
idesk= 2.1 6.13mb
dfm= 1.0 3mb

These are only meant to be rough guides. I do not think that they are accurate in Memory usage but show a rough comparisson. I tried idesk vs rox-pinboard on another leightweight system and Rox won out (instead of idesk this time).

edo 不是 WM 啦

她是个桌面环境 ， 跟 KDE/Gnome 同级

edo 的 WM 是 edewm
edo 除了 WM 以外还有很多东西的

整体功能跟早期的 KDE 1 相当吧


（  不过要是能直接跑早期的 KDE 1 ， 似乎也不错 ）
