I have read those two old postings about not being able to use "rpm ivh" in troubleshooting
http://www.linuxsir.cn/bbs/showthread.php?t=164419
http://www.linuxsir.cn/bbs/showthread.php?t=102676
but still very confused. I understand what "chattr +i +a" is, but what can i do if /etc/inittab is missing and I need to reinstall the related rpm package? If /etc/fstab is missing, I can create it by memory, but it is impossible to create /etc/inittab by myself
In many troubleshooting postings, people talked about running this command, but it won't work if you are not allowed to use "rpm -ivh" in troubleshooting, or if you don't have access to remote NFS install source server.
rpm -ivh --force --root /mnt/sysimage /mnt/source/Redhat/RPMS/packagename
Maybe I have misunderstood what you guys mean by not allowing to use "rpm -ivh"?
