The fastest linux I've used (but have a qustion)

Arch is the fastest linux I've used . It's perfect .
but I can't use pacman to install software . for example , I want to install XFCE4 , use "paceman -S xfce4" .
It's display :
error: could not open sync database: extra
         have you used --refresh yet?
I don't know why, Can someone help me?

Now you have your shiny new Arch system! Before pulling down applications, build your database for pacman first:
#pacman -Sy

Or simply type in the terminal (make sure you have internet connection):
pacman -Sy xfce4

which is equal to:
pacman -Sy
pacman -S xfce4

However, I strongly recommend you upgrade the system when you first time run pacman, there are current many goods after 0.7 release:
pacman -Syu
