1. Change hostname
which file define the environment $HOSTNAME ?
i want change my hostname via altering file, not using command hostname or netconfig.
seems /etc/hosts is useless , i changed it  and reboot, but nothing was affected .
i search it in google , but most of them are bull shits.... they tell people change /etc/sysconfig/networks for slackware , but all we know that "there is no /etc/sysconfig in slackware".

2. install scim
i have downloaded scim-1.4.7.tar.gz yet, i make it install, switch to X and type /usr/local/bin/scim but it can't get start , my $LANG is zh_CN.utf8.

3. i can't open terminal under X !

/etc/rc.d/rc.M

...
# Set the hostname.
if [ -r /etc/HOSTNAME ]; then
  /bin/hostname $(cat /etc/HOSTNAME | cut -f1 -d .)
...

因此应该是这个 /etc/HOSTNAME 的文件。

What version of Slackware are you using? Slackware 12.1 already has scim. Read its CHANGES_AND_HINTS.TXT to see how to get scim working.
If Slackware 12.0, you can refer to this blog article I wrote:
