how to add firefly's patch to ubuntu?

In his site, there are only rpm package.
Can i just use rpm -u ***.rpm?

I think it is not recommend to install that patch to your box.
As far as I know, there's patched packages for debian in the unstable repo.
There's no garantee that it might also work in Ubuntu.
You don't really need the bold type of Chinese fonts, do you?
Or you can simply install some bold type of chinese fonts instead.

I think i just don't like the AA of font.
It looks bad on my LCD.
But when i close the AA,the english character looks worse.
how can i do?

edit ~/.fonts.conf
Just close AA for some specified fonts, such as simsun
pls search for instructions how to modify fonts.conf
