Tuesday November 15 2005
30 towns from China and Brazil will participate in the event.
Mandriva, the number one European Linux publisher, will gather its community of users across the globe during a worldwide install party on Saturday, November 19th.
Following the release of Mandriva Linux 2006, Mandriva is mobilizing its network of Linux User Groups (LUGs). Free community installation sessions will take place around the world. Major participating locations include the United States, Brazil, Canada, China, Moroco, and the island of Reunion.
More than 60 cities are involved, including a dozen in China and 15 in Brazil.
Expert Mandriva Linux users are invited to assist beginners to help them get started with the operating system. A variety of goodies will be distributed to the participants.
Funda Wang, a Chinese contributor to the Mandriva Linux project explains:
"I've been using Mandriva Linux for several years, thanks to the continual improvements made for Chinese users. The install party is a great opportunity for people to know what is a user-friendly and secure operating system. There will be a dozen places all over China (including Taiwan, of course) holding the event on November 19th. Mandriva Linux is a wonderful choice when one wants to switch to Linux, this is the reality users will have the opportunity to attest at the install parties."
Participants will be able to:
- Get help on installing Mandriva Linux on their laptop or desktop free of charge
- View demonstrations of all that can be done with Mandriva Linux
- Get answers to their questions
- Meet other Mandriva Linux users
As a testament to its ease of use, Mandriva Linux is being increasingly preloaded on computers by leading hardware manufacturers.
In the belief that installation is one the toughest steps to complete in order to have beginners adopt a new operating system, Mandriva invites anyone wishing to better know Linux to join the free installation parties that are being organized on November 19. These installation parties are made possible thanks to the power of the knowledge sharing spirit well established within the open source community.
The number of Mandriva Linux users worldwide is estimated to be in the order of 6 to 8 million.
