站点上有2006.0只有只有一个minimal CD 可用，不知道这么小的容量，少了哪些东西
还有一些stage，他们具体算是什么，step吗

少那些东西有关系吗？ 要什么自己 emerge 什么就是了。
任何 CD 能启动机器就已经足够了，对 Gentoo 来说。

你不需要重新安装GENTOO， 通常修复系统错误不是什么很麻烦的问题。
第一个可行的解决办法是先用LIVE－CD（安装CD）来引导， 然后用chroot来更换到你现有的GENTOO的系统下，

我也和楼主一样的疑问..被GENTOO的按自己的系统打造专属系统所吸引，而且它也不像LFS那样每个软件都需要自己编译。但发觉对于GENTOO的安装，还是存在很多疑问，呵呵。不过我是决定用MINI ISO来编译系统，就是不知道具体过程是如何的，网上也找不到相应的帖子，唉...

Gentoo Linux Installer LiveCD

A LiveCD is a bootable medium which contains a self-sustained Gentoo environment. It allows you to boot Linux from the CD. During the boot process your hardware is detected and the appropriate drivers are loaded. The Gentoo Installation CDs are maintained by Gentoo developers.

There currently are two Installation CDs available:

    * The Installer LiveCD contains everything you need to install Gentoo. It provides a graphical environment, a graphical as well as console based installer which automatically carries out the installation for you, and of course, the installation instructions for your architecture.
    * The Minimal Installation CD contains only a minimal environment that allows you to boot up and configure your network so you can connect to the Internet. It does not contain any additional files and cannot be used during the current installation approach.

可还是不大明白stage的作用，既然liveCD包含了一切，那么stage又在起什么作用

所谓的Stage就是Gentoo提供给你的一些基本的工具，因为建造一个房子总要有一些工具才行，如果没有工具的话，光用手是不行的了。不同的 Stage代表给你的工具的现代化程度，Stage1相当于只给你几把斧子，锤子这样的原始工具，Stage2则相当于给你铲车等机械化工具了，而 Stage3则几乎给了你一个快要完工的房子了。是不是觉得 Gentoo很慷慨。当然了，越是原始的工具越难用，你需要花的时间就越多，但是自己可以决定的事情也就越多。我现在选用Stage3，为了方便，因为我觉得Gentoo提供的已经不错了，我对于优化内核也没有什么想法，因为我实在不知道那些参数可以帮我明显提高效率。不过你也可以选择其他的Stage，Gentoo提供的手册非常详细，难度并不大。 Stage并没提供给我们，需要我们上网自己下载，这样可以保持你得到最新的产品。

但是对于live的存在，还是不甚了了，手册中提到的用liveCD恢复，在我看来，用其它的CD也该是可以恢复的，到底他的不同在什么地方呢

LiveCD offers you an woking environment. The most important thing is stages.

Yes, in theroy, you can use any liveCD to install and maintance gentoo system. just because gentoo liveCD is aimed to install and maintance gentoo, so it is preferred. Not all the features can be offered by Knoppix or Slax etc.

I do not use any livecd at all. I like to intall gentoo from another existing linux distribution on my harddisk.
