编译内核后重新启动出错

操作过程如下：
系统cento4
原来内核：2.6.9-11.elsmp
tar -zxvf linux-2.6.17.tar.gz
cd linux-2.6.17
make menuconfig
make bzImage
make modules
make modules_install
make install
vi /boot/grub/grub.conf

title CentOS (2.6.17)
        root (hd0,4)
        kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.17 ro root=LABEL=/1
        initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.17.img

重新启动出错:
mount:error 2 mounting ext3
mount:error 2 mounting none
switching to new root
switchroot:mount failed:22
umount /initrd/dev failed:2
kernel panic -not syncing：attempted to kill init!
