With Fedora 7 coming out later in the week there are a few notes to pass along. AMD has no intention of delivering an updated R200 class fglrx driver. What this means is that if you are using an R200 GPU (anything less than or equal to the ATI Radeon 9250) will NOT work with any version of the fglrx driver and Fedora 7. You must use the open-source Radeon driver, there is no way around that.
If you're going to be immediately upgrading to Fedora 7 and are using an R300/400/500 GPU with the fglrx driver, you may want to wait. I have the Fedora packaging scripts working for Fedora 7 (as has been the case now for the past few months), but using Fedora 7 R2 there's problems with aticonfig and other issues inside of the fglrx binary blob. Since the issues seem to stem from the closed-source portion of the binary driver, the earliest we may see functioning drivers is 8.38 in June (not in the 8.37 driver). |
