Turbolinux Releases "Turbolinux 8 for AMD64", a Dedicated OS for AMD's Next-Generation 64-Bit Processors
First Linux OS for AMD64-based systems in Japan
April 23, 2003 - Tokyo, Japan - Turbolinux, Inc. today announced a new product, Turbolinux 8 for AMD64, a dedicated OS for the AMD OpteronTM processor. The AMD OpteronTM is a next generation 64-bit processor announced on April 22 (US) by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD). Turbolinux 8 for AMD64 will be the first Linux OS available in Japan dedicated to the AMD64 architecture.
Turbolinux provide the advantege of compatibility and the ability to run 32-bit applications without restriction at the OS level, thereby enabling a more streamlined migration from 32-bit environments. This enables users to eliminate the barriers imposed by 32-bit systems and to enjoy the benefits of the scalability of 64-bit computing while utilizing current 32-bit application assets in expanding computing environments.
In addition, Turbolinux is able to utilize their Asian language expertise cultivated in the development of existing x86-based operating systems to support 64-bit Japanese and Asian (simplified Chinese, traditional Chinese, and Korean) language environments.
Turbolinux is the first company to offer the 64-bit Linux technology to Japan and Asia market. With joint marketing and sales activities with AMD, Turbolinux commits to engage Linux in 64 bit computing and its market.
