Couldn't make SCIM work, help needed, please
Thanks for your hard work on SCIM, it works perfectly on my wife's Slackware 9.1. However, I just couldn't make it work on my Debian Sarge (latest), do you (or anyone else) have any experience in using SCIM on Debian, it's gonna be very valuable as Debian is a major distro with thousands users out there.
Here's my problems, sorry for not typing in Chinese (no IM yet):
1. Compiling from source
Failed to configure and got a message saying SCIM requires sizeof (unsigned short int) == 2... you need to use GCC instead...
I'm pretty sure that I have GCC 3.3.3 installed, I even wrote a small c program testing whether the size of "unsigned short int" equals 2 or not, and it does. Spent 2 hours with no luck, I then moved on to plan 2.
2. Aliening the RPM packages
I generated .deb packages by running 'alien' on all the RPM packages, successfully installed, exported XMODIFIERS, started scim with '-d', everything looked fine, the SCIM icon was sitting on my gnome taskbar (panel), but the IM window never showed up no matter how many times I pressed Ctrl+Space... my desktop is gnome 2.4, configured to use X Input Method as default.
Any clues for my problems, and it would be great if you could release SCIM packages for Debian.
Thanks in advance! |
