安装完nvidia的驱动后不能进入X

我的debian sarge，kernel 2.6.10-i386-smp ，nvidia geforce fx 5600 go。
在nvidia的主战下载的1.0-6629驱动源码，编译成功，然后运行modconf加载 nvidia, agpnvidia两个模块，X却始终不能启动。

xf86cfg运行后自动退出，显示不能找到鼠标，但以前没有安装nvidia的驱动的时候是可用的。
/var/log/.X86.....那个文件显示nvidia设备初始化正常。
startx后黑屏，ctrl+alt+backspace无效，只能重启
请教原因

这是原先系统默认的,请问他代表什么意思,为什么改了之后屏幕的集团问题就解决了呢?
我知道它代表是NV的驱动程序,是不是为LINUX内核自带的驱动程序.然后修改这后就是自己安装的驱动程序了?
可能比较菜?请大家不要见笑!

把TNT2 vanta/vanta LT 设置为apg 4x了，装好后进入图形界面5分钟就死。
现在还是那样

系统是Fedora core 2 下载的驱动是 NVDIA-linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run
在文本模式下#chmod 777 NVDIA-linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run
#sh NVDIA-linux-x86-1.0-6629-pkg1.run
安装过程正常，然后修改/etc/X11/xorg.conf  
将其中的Driver  "vesa"改成 Driver "nvidia"   将Load "dir"去掉
之后无法进入x   
所参考的帖子是在FC3下安装，其中提到要运行
#mknod /etc/udev/devices/nvidia0 c 1950
#mknod /etc/udev/devices/nvidiactl 195 255
并且修改/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit
在133行后加入
mknod /etc/udev/devices/nvidia0 c 1950
mknod /etc/udev/devices/nvidiactl 195 255
我在FC3种安装过，方法可行。但是我在FC2中，运行
#mknod /etc/udev/devices/nvidia0 c 1950
#mknod /etc/udev/devices/nvidiactl 195 255
都提示参数错误，请兄弟们指点一下在FC2种该怎么装

版主啊,我 按照你说的方法安装了4496的pkg文件 .可出现了nvidia的 图标.但显示器的刷新频率依然不能调啊
