- There will soon be a new version of the driver in CVS. The jpeg decoder has been replaced, pictures decode now without bad blocks. It's planned to have common source driver that compiles for kernel 2.4 and 2.6. I think the first release is also in sight - i think the following features should be completed before it can be a 0.1 :
- must compile under 2.4.x and 2.6.x
- support for wcam300a, genius webcam v2, creative webcam nx and nx pro
- v4l support (for usage with e.g. xawtv)
- /proper dev/video support
It will be announced here when 0.1 is available.

- Success!: Images from captured zc0302 streams successfully decoded! (see samples here (1) (2) ) thanks to the great help from Cyril Russo
- added some more cams - Vimicro recently made some statements on developing linux drivers for their devices - it seems demand for linux support from their customers is still too low for them to spend much effort in it - they even gave out some preliminary driver binary ( for redhat9(x86) ,2.4.20-18.9 ) - if anybody gets this thing to work, let us know!

- Some more cams were added to the wish - counting 14 now
- Development is still going on... and there is even some progress  initialization of the chipset seems to work and even some data can be read from the cams allready. So right now we're concentrating on getting the data stream right (still some issues). Another issue is the decoding of the data stream (seems to be some kind of jpeg). Once again, no docs are available (although some info has been figured out). Anybody who wants to help (jpeg-decoder , usb-stream) , mail us!

Project Description:
Development of Linux Drivers for ZC0301/ZC0302 based USB-Webcams (e.g. Mustek WCAM300A).
The goal of this Project is to develop a Linux(x86) kernel-driver for USB-Webcams based on Z-Star chip ZC0302 (eventually also ZC0201,ZC0301,ZC0301 and others).
One camera model using this chip is the Mustek WCAM300A. It is a low-cost USB-Webcam which provides nice quality pictures at good framerates (up to 640x480Pixels @15fps).
Development of the driver will involve
collecting documentation and tools which are related to the device
analyzing the protocol between host and device using USB-sniffing-tools such as "sniffusb" or "SnoopyPro" since no documentation is available on the register set until now
implementing an experimental driver for the zc0302
