你是在哪个linux平台上安装的？这些rpm包据我观察，是用gcc 2.96编译的，运行在rh8.0及mdk9.0或许多多少少有点问题。还是用第二种方式安装吧。

the gmplayer only worked at first time when i installed it. every time i run it, it has following messages. I am using woody debian.

我用编译安装了，现在有个毛病是这样的(方法安全按哈兄的)：超级用户能正常显示汉字，但普通用户还是显示英文。用同样的方法再编译一遍(这时我有一边上网一边听歌)，现在还MP都没法启动了，每次一启动就黑在那，不是说在LINUX下我们能一边编译一边干别的什么吗？
有个这样的提示：
Can't open input config file /root/.mplayer/input.conf: No such file or directory
Can't open input config file /usr/local/etc/mplayer/input.conf: No such file or directory
font  cant't open file:/root/.mplayer/font/font.desc
Font /usr/local/share/mplayer/font/font.desc loaded successfully! (7649 chars)

这问题的根源是权限问题！
先拷入input.conf文件： cp /root/MPlayer-0.90pre10/etc/input.conf /usr/local/share/mplayer/
请这样修改你的权限：
chmod  -R 777 /usr/local/share/mplayer
chmod -R 777 /usr/local/etc/mplayer
chmod -R 777 /usr/local/bin/mplayer
