nvidia驱动安装方法[已经更新]──2004-12-25

在Linux7.2的时候，我装显卡驱动没有问题的，但是现在用的8.0，却怎么也装不上显卡驱动了。

我是GeForce2的显卡，去Nvidia下载的驱动，一个i68673up的Driver，一个GLX。和7.2的时候一样的下载的驱动，只不过下载的是7.3的而已。而且我安装的时候，和7.2的安装方式一样。但是，一startx就会出现错误，我没有有记录下来的错误信息。但是大致意思是XF86Config中的什么config不对。但是我已经在XF86Config中将nv改成了NVIDIA了啊！

各位兄弟，小弟升级nvidia的驱动后，就再进不了X-window了。主要情况如下：

1、我的uname-a结果：
Linux localhost.localdomain 2.4.18-3 #1 Thu Apr 18 07:37:53 EDT 2002 i686 unknown
我的平台是RH7.3（未升级核心），Inter PIII 667 + Inter 440BX + nVidia Geforce2。
2、下载网页：http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?IO=linux_display_ia32_1.0-4191
3、下载的GLX包：GLX RPM ：NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-4191.i386.rpm
4、下载的RedHat 7.x (7.3, 7.2, 7.1) updated to 2.4.18-18.7.x UP i686 Architecture
文件名：NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-4191.rh7xup_2.4.18_18.7.x.i686.rpm
5、安装步骤：将两个RPM包拷贝到/root目录下，#rpm -ivh，先kernel后GLX。然后按readme里说明，把nv改成nvidia，确认有Load  "glx" ，注释掉Load  "GLcore"和Load  "dri"。最后重启动。完整的XFree86Config-4文件附在后面。
6、重启后执行#startx，提示出错，我看说明的意思是记载在“XFree86.0.log”这个文件中，所以把它贴上来（见后）。
7、此前我是用的G400显卡，换geforce2卡后进入单用户模式用#Setup自动配置成功，可以进入x，然后升级过Version: 1.0-3123的驱动，同样有这个错误提示。现在再升级到1.0-4191，还是这样，头疼啊，谢谢了！

看一下这里。。。。有没有美化过，如果美化过，前面加#号注掉可能。。如果没有美化过，这样做就不行了。。

可能没有美化，我没有看到美化的字体路径。所以把这两行前面的#号去掉。
试一下。

北南兄，多谢你指点……不过那个并不是关键。
我后来是仔细又看了一遍nVidia的readme，才看到升级驱动和安装驱动是不同的。正解如下：
１、rpm -Uvh kernel.rpm
２、rpm -e NVIDIA_GLX.rpm
３、rpm -ivh glx.rpm
（kernel.rpm代指对应的核心rpm包文件名，glx.rpm代指对应的ＧＬＸ包，第２条是卸载原来的GLX，照样输入即可），然后再编辑XFree86Config-4即可。
不过，进入ＫＤＥ后发现一个问题，就是原来安装的simsun等字体都不能用了，用ＫＤＥ的字体管理器查看都已经安装，但是在选项／观感／字体里，没有办法选择simsun，只有songti。

另外也得看显卡，如果是NVIDIA rava的显卡，不能支持3D，也就是说必须把Load "gxl"注掉。。

北南兄，你说的xtt，truetype字体服务器，rava(是不是应该是riva 128？没听说NVIDIA有这卡)我都不懂，不过我用自己的办法倒也解决了。过程如下：

1、我看了一下XF86Config-4文件里的字体路径，里面根本没有simsun，但是用fm.sh安装又说已经存在这个字体，我找了一下，发现原来的字体目录不同。于是我在XF86Config-4里把字体路径改成原来的……失败。
2、恢复原状后。在KDE的字体管理器里指定字体源为WIN98里的FONTS目录，然后试图安装字体，提示字体无效；
3、灵机一动，在KDE的字体管理器里指定字体来源为LINUX里原来安装好的字体目录（/usr/share/fonts/ttf），再安装simsun等，OK！
4、在选项/观感/字体里全部设置成simsun，搞定！！

希望对碰到同样问题的朋友有用。

SORRY，我说错了。。。
是riva，对。。。也是NVIDIA芯片的，只不过型号不同，是不能用3D的。
我有这个卡，也能用3D加速，但是死机。。。。。

如果能成功，那真的为兄弟祝贺。。。
