the problem is that the RPMs that from your website couldn't find my gtk directory and also will ask for some other files which already in the system, this is why i try the hard way.

那为什么不能把 scim 装到 /usr 底下呢？

安装 scim-chinese 的时候，直接 rpm -ivh scim-chinese-0.2.6-1.i586.rpm --nodeps --force 就行了。

你的 gtk2 是什么版本？

the scim now is inside /usr/local/lib/scim-1.0/0.8.0 , which actually the 0.8.2 version. do u meant just under /usr, not go any further into the sub-directories? but i don't know why it doesn't just go into /usr, that's the result i type "make install" after "./configure" and "make".
by the way, the gtk in my system is gtk+2.2.1.

You should ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc then make; make install

Ok, you may just try to install the original rpms provided by my:

rpm -Uvh --force --nodeps scim-0.8.2-1.i586.rpm scim-tables-zh-0.3.0-1.noarch.rpm scim-chinese-0.2.6-1.i586.rpm

james, i did what you said but the scim can not be call my except the little icon in the system tray and the setup window after i typed "scim -d" in the konsole. if i just add the two lines "scim -d" and "export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM" into /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc, it has nothing come up too after i pressed "crtl+spece".
the command line screen like below.

Please read the scim user manual first:

You scim has been sucessfully loaded.

The problem is due to the incorrect XMODIFIERS or locale settings.

James, refer to the last screenshot on the previous page, the scim stopped on the "starting scim" stage, is it started properly already? and refer to your website, i couldn't find the topic about setting the local. where can i get the information from? TKS!

Yes, it's ok.

If you want to run scim in background, use scim -d command.

Please refer to the manual of your Linux distribution on how to set the locale.
