sendmail port 25

# telnet localhost 25
Trying 127.0.0.1...
telnet: connect to address 127.0.0.1: Connection refused

can't use #mail root -> no response

open port 25, root account received many and many spam mail, how to find the problem if I just use send out function by php.

under console mode, type
#mail root

complete and finish
but root can't reveive mail

please help
