WineExplorer
The Wine explorer is a "bridge" process that sits around linking the users GNOME/KDE desktop with the Win32 world and vice-versa. It's called "explorer" for no good reason, except that this is the name of the shell process in Windows (I dislike the name personally ;).
There is a patch to add it, written by MikeHearn as part of the system tray work, but it has not been applied partly because more design work is needed in this area according to Alexandre.
It has a few tasks:
*
System tray integration (this is the patch that adds the Wine explorer so it would be good to get this in first)
*
Color scheme/theme integration
*
HAL/DBUS integration for allowing Win32 apps to respond to hardware events
*
Registry integration: ie if you set the wallpaper in a Windows program like Paintbrush, IE or WebShots Desktop then the native wallpaper should change too
Design issues include:
*
Lifecycle management. The current implementation shuts down a few seconds after it's no longer needed.
*
When running it'll stop the wineserver shutting down so the config file won't be re-read: solution is Wine 0.9 and the config file obliteration |
