I think we are all administraters. Caz it's our own computer.
Don't tell that you are not using you own computer.
we can use shell to do many things, such as the shell I just write, do a statistics on online pc.

I don't think only administrators use shell a lot.

I completely switch to Linux from Windowsw three years ago.
I don't like the shell or Linux at that time, but I was forced to use Linux machine in order to share code with the other people in our group.  Of course all the guys in our group are using Linux, because it is free.

I have to say that I really had many troubles in the first month as I was already use to the MS windows graphic interface. But after the first month struggle, I found I work much more effective than before by using the Shell. It saved me a lot of time.  

That is the reason Why I am using shell. Shell is more convenient that Graphic tools.

One example.
I have a laptop and a desktop. The laptop is very new, and faster than the Desktop. Therefore, I always use the laptop to make program, and use desktop as a backup machine.
I make a very short shell script to check which file is updated or corrected. Then copy the new file to the desktop automatically. I don't need to do it by hand. Shell script saved my life.
