Of course he is a pirate, who isn't? Find me someone who hasn't ever even once downloaded and viewed or listened to the copyrighted material off the internet without paying! I doubt you'll find many people.
I can bet that even the strongest prosecutors of file sharers, such as the president and officials of RIAA and MPAA, are susceptible to the same thing.
I think that sharing and enjoying files shared over the internet is so natural to people that there is hardly any netizen who has escaped it. The difference between us and them the proscutors isn't that we share (or in their vocabulary "steal") and they don't, but that they hide it better than we are able to (being pressed by the powers that they use against us).
One sentence of the story you linked to goes along with the illusionary FUD propaganda against file sharing:
The Internet's biggest social failure has been that it has served as enabling technology for rampant cheating and theft - and the rationalization of it.
Nice, natural sharing that everybody does is here being called "rampant cheating and theft" and then presented as internet's biggest social failure.
Get off the net if you think that's a failure! If you think that sharing, which is actually one of the fundamental characteristics of internet, means a social failure, then you don't deserve to be connected! |
