iproute做nat的问题

看到iproute也可以作nat，结果问题如下：
# ip route add nat from 172.16.1.254 via 10.40.17.55 table local
Error: an inet prefix is expected rather than "from"

不清楚是什么意思

换个问法：不用iptables，只用iproute，怎么实现nat？
