Aqua icons for KDE
Beta 1
Here it is, the Aqua icon set to end all Aqua icon sets! Over a year in the making, with over 2,800 icons in sizes from 16x16 to 128x128, the Aqua icon set aims to replace every icon possible in KDE with a Mac OS X Aqua counterpart. The screenshot could not POSSIBLY show all the thousands of icons available here. It's just a taste. A few notes I want to make about this icon theme:
1. Not all icons are present. MOST of the MOST frequently used ones are. I'm sorry if your application FooBarTastic2000 doesn't have icons that this includes. I am always working to add more to this theme. Please email requests for new icons to me, and I'll see what I can do. Many applications use ~/.kde/share/apps/appname/pics/ for their icons. Look forward to an "apps only" release of Aqua icons soon, to cover application specific icons (icons for Kopete, for example, to make it look like iChat).
2. Does this theme infringe on Apple's copyrights? Probably. But so far Apple has been very kind to themes that mimic their GUI, so long as no Apple logos are included. I think I have gotten them all out of this theme. If you spot an "Apple" shape or the Mac smiley face, email me. I'll get it out.
Besides, we gave them KHTML ;-)
3. I did not make most of these icons. 95% of these are from other sources, such as Shok's very, very awesome "IcOsx" theme also available here on kde-look.org. Many of them are straight from OS X itself. Some, when appropriate, are from third-party theme designers. Suggestions on what icons to use for what apps are welcome.
4. YOU MUST BE USING 16x16 TOOLBAR ICONS for this to work right. I have a FEW of the toolbar action icons in 22x22 and 32x32, but not many at all. It is highly, highly recommended you use 16x16 for all toolbars. Getting all sizes for toolbar actions is high on the priority list.
5. The filenames were based on the crystalsvg icons that come with KDE 3.1. For most of the icons to work, you probably need at least KDE3.
6. There are a TON of EXTRA ICONS in this package that KDE will not use by default. Please browse through those and enjoy.
7. Please direct all flames about how KDE is just ripping off other ideas to /dev/null. I don't want to hear it, and neither does anyone else. If you hate this theme, don't waste your bandwidth on it. Otherwise, I welcome all suggestions and "bug" reports.
WHAT'S STILL NEEDED
There are many icons that I'm lacking and could use some help including with this set. These
are:
Rendezvous (grey and orange icon)
various device icons
development tool icons
*Anything* from the Control Panel
would help tremendously. Also needed are any toolbar icons you can find. The icons must be
in either the original .icns format or a 128x128 PNG with full alpha layer shadows. Please
do not crop icons out of screenshots! It is a lot of hard work to use an icon from a
screenshot without it looking just awful. I will most likely not use it, and you are only
wasting your time. I would also very much like to use the library/plugin "cube" icons with
the images on each visible side. Anything else not included in my theme, just ask me. If it
is a genuine icon from OS X, chances are I will include it.
