为何eth0的收、发包计数随着时间的推移而减少？

HP服务器，运行redhat as4系统，用ifconfig命令查看eth0的收、发包计数，发现，随着时间的增加，计数反而减少了，当计数达到某个阙值时，又回到零，从新计数，哪位可以解释一下？
注意蓝色和红色字体。
