可不可以在英文locale下使用中文输入法？

因为我比较喜欢英文界面。
在windows里即使是英文版本的，也可以用中文输入的阿

debian linux, kernel 2.4, gnome 2.2. 系统的缺省locale是en_CA.ISO8859-1，这样公司的其他人在需要的时候，也可以登陆进来。我在我的home directory里作了一个.chinese文件(如下)，可以帮我把locale设成中文，在起动gaim,mozilla和stardic(基本上，我只需要在这几个应用中用中文)。登陆后，打开Terminal，运行. .chinese，that's it.

i have do what you have said ,but i can't use fcitx yet.
the icon of ficitx have appeared in my screen, but ctrl+space can not active the
PingYin input.
