there is no response when i press ctrl+space in scim

i've installed scim-0.8.1-1.i586.tpm and scim-chinese-0.2.5-1.i586.rpm.
starting X, in a terminal, execute "scim &", it successfully started.
but when i try to input something in other application, a teminal or mozilla, there is no response as i press ctrl+space.
why?

scim -d
export XMODIFIERS=@im=SCIM
export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim

what's your locale?
i only sucess in zh_CN.UTF8

搞定了，我的locale都是zh_CN_GB18030
请问export GTK_IM_MODULE=xim是干什么的，我没有加这句话，也好了
