redhat8.0 install the videocard problem?

the driver for my geforce256 videocard can not be installed,I download the driver from official website,but the driver edition is only for 7.3,I try to use it,when I had installed,I can not enter the X-Window system,some info as follow:
Failed to load "dri"
Failed to load "glx"
if I change this lineriver "nv" to Driver "nvidia"
then diaplay the follow text:
Can not find the Module "nvidia"
So I just uninstalled the driver except the kernel,now it goes normal,but the input mothed lost,so I can only use my poor english for help.
I just wanna get a simply way here,thanks!!!

源码是不分版本的，下载下来编译就好了，或者下载.tar.gz的压缩包也可以。显卡驱程是linux中非常常见的问题，不要轻易放弃啊

我按照你给的帖子下载了那两个文件,但是编译内核时始终不能make成功,好多error,只有glx驱动可以make通过,于是我在nvidia的网站上下载了
NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123-rh73up.2.4.18_10.athlon.rpm(我的cpu为duron600)
来安装,提示
modprobe:Can't locate module NVdriver
但是下面有installed successful的字样,我没管它,这样可以正常进入x-window
,然后我继续make 了哪个glx驱动,照着你的改了XF86Config后,就不能进入了
提示Failed to initialize the NVdriver kernel module!
把XF86Config恢复了之后,还是不行,好象提示是什么

大哥,这到底是怎么回事啊,我的linux内核版本2.4.18.14,nvidia的网站上只有for 2.4.18.10的显卡内核.
我有个疑问,make到底是怎么使用的,另make -v显示版本为GNU C++ make 3.79.1

是因为你的系统少东西..
系统安装应该用[完全安装]，这对于新后来说是最好的安装方式。因为可能少的东西太多了，所以建议完全安装来试一下。
这个帖子我在RH 7.2 8.0 7.3 AS 2.1 以及MD 9.0 8.2 SuSE 红旗 Slackware都测试通过。我觉得安不上，应该多想一想。。

还是非常感谢,我过一段时间再说吧,不过你说完全安装就太片面了,最主要的部分我都是选完全安装的,难不成让我把哪些办公套件都装上?最起码的开发包我也装了啊,linux真是让人生畏哪,佩服你们这些高手们

其实在安装过程中有个[全部]，其实显卡升级需要[开发工具]=》kernel-source，还有一大堆的库文件等。
如果您对系统了解，根本就不必这样安装，如果对系统不是太了解，就按我说的做。

不能说“主要的部份是完全装”，这不是完全安装。
