archlinux 做 web 服务器怎么样？

正在考虑用一个简洁的distro做一个不大不小的论坛的服务器。

用了arch，简洁小巧，管理也很方便，就是不知道做服务器效果怎么样，如果不想自己花很大的功夫在管理上？

目前有几个选择，freebsd，slackware，fedora，archlinux，可是没用过freebsd ＆ fedora。

有老大们用arch的吗？

archlinux is optimized for i686, if your box is i686 based, it's ok.
else you'd better look for a substitution.

我以前在公司里的cvs、samba、bugzilla和ftp、web服务器都放在arch上，机器一开就是半年多，没什么问题。记得没什么事就别升级。;)

我现在给公司做内部管理系统，用的是Arch+Apache+Php+Mysql，已经跑了3个多月了，一点事情也没有。

第一推荐还是freebsd。

Slackware、Fedora和Arch都差不多吧。Arch的话你可以用release里面的包。如果不是出了问题就不要升级了。

重要的部件比如httpd、mysql之类可以自己找稳定的版本写PKGBUILD编译。

absolutely agree with uper's opinion!

For server, FreeBSD should be the 1st choice at this moment. (Stability)

Though Arch works fine, it shouldn't be ranked as 1st choice, as:

--- it's bleeding age comparing to FreeBSD or Debian's "stable-branch"

--- it's optimized for i686. thus increasing the possibilities of "unstable"

--- it's not arch's fault but the (LINUX) kernel. i am not trying to rise a awkward fight between linux-fans and bsd-fans. JUST PERSONAL OPINION!

By the way, even WindowsServer should be stable enough if u r the guru! The server's stablility is vary depending on the admin!

最重要的是官方kernel 并不适合作server

由于软件过新一些server软件用起来会很痛苦比如Cluster......... HA..............
我的oracle 至今也没在arch装成功过尽管经查了很多资料
