如何升级rp-pppoe？

RH8.0默认安装，其他什么都没改动过，配置好XDLS连接后可以上网，但是浏览任何网页都只有几K，换成XP确可以达到下载几百K的速度，这也差太多了吧。请问如何解决？有什么好的方法可以提高网络速度？我用的网卡是8029芯片的10M网卡，ADSL外猫，已经关掉linux的网络防火墙。

可能是DSN的事吧，设置一下DNS试一下，不要用DHCP来自动设置IP和DNS。我们可能自己来设置。
IP：192.168.0.1
netmask：255.255.255.0
网关，不要设置，如果是一台机器的话。
用redhat-config-network来设置
先试一下。有问题再讨论

已经设置过了，还是很慢，下载东西从来没有超过10K，会是网卡驱动的问题吗？我的网卡被自动设置成PCI NE2000没有找到8029芯片的驱动。

我一直没办法装8029的驱动，不过查过资料说NE2000的驱动是兼容8029的，如果驱动没有装好根本就上不了网的吧。
我找到的驱动已经很旧了，是97年的。那时候内核才1.X版本，请问还有什么其它的原因？不要告诉我电信不支持linux.

我也是用的8029,rh8,adsl上网不用激活网卡，我的网卡也一直没办法激活。dns自已填。没用rh8自带的pppoe,从网上下载的rp-pppoe3.5编译安装。速度很快。

请问木各：你有没有用过RH8.0自带的rp-pppoe？那个版本是3.4.7的，3.5的我没有试过等周末回家试试看在来讨论。

还有，linux下上网需要优化吗？

升级rp-pppoe来试一下。
把原来的删除，卸载.
[root@linuxsir01 rp-pppoe-3.5]# rpm -e rp-pppoe

然后到

FIREWALLING

Please choose the firewall rules to use.  Note that these rules are
very basic.  You are strongly encouraged to use a more sophisticated
firewall setup; however, these will provide basic security.  If you
are running any servers on your machine, you must choose 'NONE' and
set up firewalling yourself.  Otherwise, the firewall rules will deny
access to all standard servers like Web, e-mail, ftp, etc.  If you
are using SSH, the rules will block outgoing SSH connections which
allocate a privileged source port.

The firewall choices are:
0 - NONE: This script will not set any firewall rules.  You are responsible
          for ensuring the security of your machine.  You are STRONGLY
          recommended to use some kind of firewall rules.
1 - STANDALONE: Appropriate for a basic stand-alone web-surfing workstation
2 - MASQUERADE: Appropriate for a machine acting as an Internet gateway
                for a LAN

然后运行

[root@linuxsir01 rp-pppoe-3.5]# ifconfig来看查看一下，是否上网了？？
打开网页，试一下是否能快一下，如果速度上不去，我觉得还是DNS的事。多换几个DNS来试一下。
